When the Platform Isn’t Yours to Keep
During his acceptance speech for Best Contemporary Country Album at the 2026 CMAs, Jelly Roll paused before saying anything else: "Jesus, I hear You. I'm listening, Lord." What followed wasn't a polished speech. It was a testimony, an acknowledgment that the platform he had been given wasn't ultimately his own.
Some of the most powerful moments happen when people remember who the spotlight belongs to.
Award shows are usually filled with thank yous, accomplishments, and celebrations. What stood out in this moment wasn’t the award. It was Jelly Roll recognizing that influence, attention, and opportunity can all become platforms to point people toward something bigger than himself.
A platform is an opportunity, not an ownership right. Whether it's a stage, a microphone, a social media account, or a conversation with a friend, every platform gives us an opportunity to influence others. The question is: What are we pointing them toward?
Testimonies connect where arguments often can't. Jelly Roll didn't attempt to explain every detail of his faith journey. He shared what God had done in his life. There's something powerful about lived experience that people are often willing to hear, even when they aren't ready for a debate.
Jesus doesn't belong to a particular group. One of the strongest moments of the speech was the reminder that Jesus isn't owned by a political party, an industry, or a specific audience. The invitation of the Gospel has always been broader than our comfort zones.
